Pendants - Time To Reveal Who You Are

A pendant may appear as a very simple object, but with the power of human faith and the values that we tend to attach with it or any object, it can be the essence of an entire existence. While it can be just a piece of jewel for some, for others, it can be the cosmos of all the values and faith that they hold dear.

Can a pendant attain such a role in our lives, that we reflect what we are, who we are, what do we believe in through just a piece of jewellery? Can calling it - just a piece of jewellery - sound blasphemous to some? We wear 'The Cross' or 'The Lord' as something to keep God near our hearts. This shows more than the love for the Almighty.

Not just love for God, they are worn even to show love for people in our lives. Some wear them to remind them of their lovers or spouses, some wear for parents or it can be anyone, related to you in anyway. It reflects the strong bond of love that you hang around your neck and keep close to your heart.

There are people, usually this is seen more in youngsters, who wear their identity on their chest. It can be something that they identify themselves with or something that occupies a major role in their life. For example, you can wear a guitar or any musical instrument, if you are a die hard rock music (or any kind of music) fan.

And we simply can not forget pendants as jewellery. They are an integral part of neck jewellery. However pendants can be worn in other kinds of jewellery as well like tiara and belts or waist bands. Faceted or non faceted stones can be great as pendants. So can be pearls and diamonds. When worn as jewellery can add instant glow and beauty to your face and make you look prettier if chosen carefully.

Pendants - Wear What You Love - Close To Your Heart

We are living in an age that is marked by competition and all of us are more or less like a brand. Whether it is the professional life or the social circle, we need to have our own distinct identity in order to be recognised separately even when amidst the crowd. And therefore, we have come up with different ways to express ourselves, to let the whole world know what we are and what are our beliefs. Sometimes we take the help of tattoos, and sometimes a special jewellery that tells something about us.

A pendant is one such jewellery and a popular way of establishing one's own identity. With the help of a pendant, you can express your faith, your belief, your favourites, likes and dislikes. You can also bear your name in a pendant - and this is quite a common practice around the world. If you are a sports aficionado or a music buff, you can tell that to the entire world around you, with the help of pendants.

A pendant is also a great way to keep someone close to your heart. You can put a picture of your beloved or her name written on the pendant and hang it on your neck, bearing your love on your chest. Or if you are the absolutely romantic sort, you can write her name in a foreign language on a fancy pendant, which is not quite common in your land, and flaunt your love openly enjoying all the curiosity around.

Pendants can make lovely gifts. And the fact that it is quite unisex in nature makes it a wonderful gift for both the men and women. And not just adults, even kids can wear pendants and there are many kids who actually sport fashionable pendants. So in short, pendants are one of those jewellery which is unisex in nature, is quite universal and the best way to express anything that you want to say.

Pendants - Express the Power Within

A pendant is many things, emotions and qualities encapsulated in one piece of ornament. It has always been one of the essential pieces of jewelery, worn from the days of caveman. Both men and women have adored and adorned a pendant which many a time meant anything or everything to them. Sometimes it is faith – in the shape of God or any religious symbol. Sometimes a pendant defines the persona or any particular personality trait. And sometimes a pendant is a symbol of love, one that remains close to the heart.

A pendant, more often than not, symbolizes something for the one wearing it. Sometimes it is the kind of mood or situation the person is in. For instance, when in a professional environment, you can put a pearl necklace with a big pearl pendant or something that looks sedate yet earnest. Sometimes it is a figment of one’s thoughts, tastes and preferences. Like when you go out with friends, you can express your artistic self with an ethnic pendant.

Pendant is also a wonderful symbol of love. It can be some hobby you follow passionately, for instance a guitar if you love music, a basketball or a golf club if you have a penchant for sports, or it can be your own name woven into a thread along your neck. It can also be the picture or name of someone whom you love. This is the best way you can express your emotions for someone, with a help of a pendant.

Apart from self expression, Pendants also make wonderful gifts. It is a very romantic way a husband surprises his wife. Besides, you can also gift beautiful pendants to your best friend on her birthday. A pendant will be the most cherished gift on Mother’s Day. Just one small piece of jewellery and you can imagine the power it holds and spreads all around the one wearing it.

Paul Shane cherishes a hobby of studying and collecting jewelery, to dig out the making and story behind them, especially the rare or exquisite ones, also the Pendants being used for manufacturing the jewelery. Which Is Better - Fixed Wall Switches or Wireless Emergency Pendants?

Each has its place. In some circumstances, it may be difficult for a tenant to physically get to a fixed pull chair switch whereas a pendant will work anywhere in an apartment or facility. On the other hand, many independent seniors will resent having to wear a pendant. This will be especially true for seniors who do not feel that they have any immediate or threatening health problems. They may end up throwing it in a drawer and forgetting where it is. A good solution is to install fixed pull switches with hand beaded chains in every apartment and/or the table top call switch. Offer the pendants on an as-needed basis. The facility may consider leasing the pendants to the residents to generate additional monthly income.

If wireless is the option of choice, wireless transmitters may be easily installed on frequently opened doors or drawers such as the refrigerator door, the silverware drawer or bathroom door. If the door is not opened within a selectable time of either twelve or twenty-four hours, an alarm is generated by the computer. These check-in transmitters may be easily installed one at a time on an as-needed basis or all at once when the initial system is installed. If the resident leaves for an extended period of time, the inactivity alarm will activate only once. Then the resident returns and opens the door or drawer, the transmitter will automatically reinstall itself into the daily check-in monitor loop without any action on the part of the staff. This eliminates the possibility of human error and the need for “vacation bookkeeping”.

The following are important considerations when evaluating any wireless emergency call system:

*

SUPERVISION

The system must know if a pendant or transmitter has stopped working or if its battery is low and then alert facility staff. Pendants and transmitters should have the capability of checking in by sending a test signal at least once each minute. Using unsupervised pendants for medical emergency call should not be considered as it will put resident’s lives at risk and create unnecessary exposure and liability for the facility.

*

TOTALLY WIRELESS

The system should be totally wireless and not rely on telephone lines which are an ongoing monthly expense to the facility. Telephone lines are an unnecessary liability and introduce an element of chance into the transmission of a life saving alarm. This is because the signal must rely on passing through local telephone company copper wires to their central station switch and back again to the facility.

*

WORKS ANYWHERE

An emergency call pendant should work anywhere in the facility such as the dining room or exercise room and not be limited to operation only in the resident’s apartment. The system should have the ability to detect pendant activation out-of-doors on the walking trail or at the tennis court.

*

LOCATION DETECTION

The system should be able to provide the general location of the resident. This would be especially true for out-of-doors applications. By adding locators, pendants may be located to within ten feet. A Nurse Call wireless emergency call system SHOULD provide ALL of these important features.

Ultimately the final decision should be on the individual resident. When you decide on a specific emergency call system, it should have the option of both wall mounted and wireless this way you can provide your residents with alternatives to the emergency call system.

What You Need to Know About Diamond Pendants

You’ve been given grandma’s heirloom diamond pendants. Instead of leaving them tucked away in your jewelry box, you’d really like to wear them. There is one problem though; grandma’s diamond pendants are terribly ugly.

No disrespect meant toward grandma, but you wouldn’t ever wear those things. Okay maybe the jewelry really isn’t ugly. Maybe it just needs to be repaired or it’s too small for your taste. Whatever the reason may be, it’s okay if you don’t like your grandma’s diamond pendants. You can still put your grandma’s heirlooms to good use.

Using your grandma’s jewelry you can update the style and create something totally new. A lot of people like to take the stones out of diamond pendants and use them to create a ring or necklace. Don’t feel bad about redesigning grandma’s jewelry. If it’s left in its original form what good will it be doing sitting hidden in the drawer of your jewelry box?

By using the stones for another jewelry piece grandma’s memory will be with you every time you wear it.

First you’ll want to have a qualified gemologist take a look at the diamond pendant. They will be able to tell you all about the stones that are in the jewelry. You’ll want to know about the color, clarity, cut, and carat of the stone. The gemologist will also be able to tell you about any flaws or problem areas in the diamonds as well.

After you’ve taken the stone to a gemologist you need to pick a jeweler. Be extremely careful about which jeweler you choose. You want someone that has plenty of experience and skill; an amateur could destroy those heirloom stones.

When choosing a jeweler it’s also important to look at their other work. Make sure that there are a number of his pieces that you really like.

Designing the ring comes next. You will work extremely close with the jeweler for this step in the process. You’ll be giving him your ideas, likes and dislikes. If you have a picture to help you describe what you want, bring it with you when you meet with him.

Remember to be as clear as you can about what you want. If your idea is totally different than what you’ve described to the jeweler the outcome will be a complete let down.

Drawing sketches is another way to help the jeweler see what you’re looking for. Don’t be shy either; this is going to be your new piece of jewelry. You have to make sure you’re going to absolutely love it.

So if you get diamond pendants and you’ll never wear them, create something new. Using the stones from grandma’s diamond pendants for an updated, different piece of jewelry is perfectly acceptable. Have fun designing it and wear it with pride.

Proper Care For Diamond Pendants Preserves And Beautifies

When you have a diamond pendant in your armoire that would take your breath away, then you will have to give some consideration to taking care of that diamond. There are many aspects to the care of a wonderful diamond pendant. It is a big investment therefore it needs extra care. You want this diamond to last a lifetime and while diamonds are the hardest compound on earth they still need lots of tender, loving care.

When you clean your diamond pendants there are special ways to do this. Pendants can get dirty from day to day wear, so you must clean them periodically. Even oils from the skin can affect your pendant. There are a few ways to take care of this properly, such as giving them a mild soap bath. Use a soft brush to wash away the loose particles, but be careful to do this as far away from the sink as possible. It is a known fact that sinks love jewelry and this is one sure way of losing your pendant.

Another way to clean your diamond pendant is to soak it in a solution of half ammonia and half cold water. Leave it in the soak in the water for about a half an hour. You will still have to use a bristle brush to clean it, but remember you can scratch diamonds so be very careful with the brushing. There are also some fantastic cleaners on the market for diamonds and this might be more to your taste to purchase some of these. All you have to do is follow the instructions, but you have to be careful you don’t touch the diamonds with your fingers. It will only ruin all your hard work. Always pick your jewelry up by the edges. Another great idea is pass your pendant in at a jewelry store while you shop. Your pendant is now in the hands of an expert who will clean it safely and make it look like new. There are also machines sold on the market for cleaning diamonds, but you have to know how to use these as they can cause damage to your diamond if not used properly.

The setting is another important part of your jewelry and is one of the leading reasons why people lose the diamonds from the pendants. Take your diamond pendant to a jeweler and have the setting checked at least once a year. You really need to do this if your diamond is set in soft metals such as 24 karat gold. When you store your pendants, you also need to place your diamond pendants in a soft fabric covering and place them into a soft fabric jewelry box. Put them in separate compartments if you can. This is because there is only one thing that can cut a diamond and that is another diamond.

Don’t wear your diamond pendant when you are doing heavy work. Even though they are hard compounds, it is still possible to scratch your diamond when it’s given the right kind of hit. You also have to keep your pendant away from small children. To ensure that you have a record of your pendant, use a camera to record it and store the video or pictures. Then if anything should happen to your diamond pendant, you have a record of you owned for insurance purposes or just for your own personal use.

Residential Art Glass Lighting - Design Trends in Chandeliers, Sconces, & Pendants

Much in the way jazz altered our concept of music, glass art has changed our expectations of residential lighting. In fact, glass art lighting is being hailed as one of the hottest new trends to hit luxury home design. According to 25-year Southern California interior designer Greg Griffith, G. Griffith & Co. of Destin, FL, “It’s emerging as a transitional point for a more energetic look. From Asian to 18th Century, every style and design can incorporate glass art lighting. The fact that these are actual sculptured pieces means you’re adding art to the room without cluttering the wall.”

Aside from aesthetics, the benefit to glass art lighting is that it’s so flexible, it ends up resolving many design conflicts. Take, for example, the story of the Wisdom Window. This stained glass piece was created by a California glass artist to create a welcoming light at the end of a dark, New York apartment hallway. The artist created four matching sconces, but wanted the end of the hallway to feel like a window. He innovated a design where a diffuser sheet will be installed underneath the stained glass piece, and lit from behind.

One New York glass artist developed a unique way to illuminate her bathroom. She created her own mosaic glass sink and lit it from underneath to create a warm, amber glow. It also doubles as her nightlight. To underscore the look of an underlit sink, matching sconces are ideal. Some kitchen designers are commissioning glass art sconces and pendants to match underlit glass kitchen countertops. This creates interesting, ambient lighting in a more finished-looking lighting package.

Glass art lighting can be a subtle accent, or a prism through which the light bathes a room in a swatch of exotic colors. “I find many decorators driving décor based on the lighting fixtures,” says Seattle-based glass artist, Suzanne Guttman. “It’s easy to fall in love with a tentacled pendant light or chandelier and make it the centerpiece of a room.”

The Cost of Beautiful

Investing in gorgeous glass art lighting is less daunting than one may assume. A Bellagio budget isn’t necessary to incorporate museum-quality glass lighting into a residential design. Sconces range from $400 to $1,200; small pendant lighting (suspended by one point in the ceiling) ranges from $300 to $600; larger pendants and chandeliers can range from $1,500 to $10,000. Serious collectors consider glass art an investment as well as being an aesthetic piece, just as they would an original painting, or a piece of antique furniture.

Glass Art Lighting 101

Once a homeowner decides on glass art lighting, it’s helpful to know a little about the glass and where it should be used, based on its physical characteristics. Here are some tips:

Blown glass has some limitations to the size and diameter that an artist can create. Some blown glass lighting utilizes many pieces in its design to create a larger, more sculptural effect.

Cast glass is very beautiful, but quite unusual in lighting because it is very heavy to suspend. One glass artist has created a woven glass technique that takes on the look of woven fabric, and results in a glass art lighting fixture that feels like a glass blanket.

Fused & slumped glass is popular for glass art lighting. Through the use of molds, fusing allows the artist to create large diameter canopied type lighting, thus enabling a single shade to be up to 48” in diameter. This creates consistency in shape and wonderful, unusual textures.

Etched glass is another wonderful medium for flat panel lighting. Pieces such as The Three Graces, by glass artist Margaret Oldman, can be lit with plain or multi-colored fiber optics, depending on the look a designer is trying to achieve.

Mosaic and stained glass are similar, in that they’re both ideal for flat panel lighting. Artists will often incorporate Italian smalti glass, blown sheets of transparent glass broken into small pieces, or dichroic glass, which is coated on one side with a metallic-like mirror finish.

Buyer Beware

One thing homeowners should remember, especially with lighting, is to be sure that the glass artist they’ve chosen understands how the electrical specs will dovetail with the piece, and that they know U.L. standards. As founder of Glass Artists Gallery, I estimate that close to 30% of our first-time customers come to us because they had negative experiences commissioning residential glass art lighting on their own. We are very careful about screening the artists we represent to make sure they understand the technical specifications

In short, glass art lighting choices become a very personal way to reveal a homeowner’s fingerprint on the interior design. As George Bernard Shaw once said, “You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.”

Caring For Your Diamond Pendant

Now that you have that breath taking diamond pendant in order to have it remain a beautiful and sparkling piece for years to come you must give consideration to taking proper care of it. There are many aspects to the care process for such a marvelous diamond pendant. Your diamond pendant is a great investment thus requires a little extra care. This diamond could and should last a lifetime and while diamonds are the hardest compound on earth they still require proper care.

There are special ways you should go about cleaning your diamond pendant. Pendants get dirty simply from day to day wear, so you must clean them periodically. Even oils from the skin can affect your pendant. There are a few ways to take care of this properly, such as giving them a mild soap bath. Use a soft brush to wash away the loose particles, but be careful to do this as far away from the sink as possible. It is a known fact that drains and jewelry are a bad mix and this is one sure way of losing your ring.

Another method of cleaning your during diamond is to soak it in a solution of ammonia and cold water. You should allow it to soak in the mixture for about half an hour. You will still have to use a soft bristled brush to clean it, but remember you can scratch diamonds so be very careful while brushing it. Instead of mixing your own solution you should know there are some fantastic cleaners on the market for diamonds and you might find these to be more to your taste. When using these commercial solutions all you have to do is follow the instructions, being careful you don’t touch the diamonds with your fingers. This only ruins your hard work. Always pick your jewelry up by the edges.

There are also machines on the market for diamond cleaning that are worth considering. You must know how to use these machines though or you risk damaging your diamond pendant.

The setting is another important part of your jewelry and is one of the leading reasons why people lose the diamonds from the pendants. As a precaution you should take your diamond pendant to a jeweler and have the setting checked at least once a year. Taking this step becomes even more important if your diamond is set in soft metal such as 24 karat gold. When storing your pendant it should be placed in a soft fabric covering and placed in jewelry box. If possible your diamonds should be stored in separate compartments. This is because there is only one thing that can cut a diamond and that is another diamond.

Keep in mind you should not wear your diamond pendant when you are doing heavy work. Though diamonds are among the hardest compounds on earth they can still be scratched if it receives the right kind of blow.

Why Pendant Lighting Is A Must For Any House

History and introduction to pendant lighting fixture

Pendant lighting is comparatively a baby in respect to other type of lights in the same category starting from the Huge Chandeliers. Actually if history is right, Pendant lights came into existence just as a useful substitute but a less detailed version of Chandeliers with almost same features and functionality. In fact it derived its name from pendant, a jewelry accessory. Its typical history dates back to 2700 B.C. It started with hanging lamps of clay with light given by an animal fat burn which was the way Greeks devised. As time past, clay lamps were replaced by Glass. In the 80s, European pendants began to appear with exclusive use of glass designs as pendants with attractive shades.

The picture of the typical pendant light is a single fixture that hangs from the ceiling from a string or other kind of supporting device such as a metal rod. They are minuscule in detail as compare to the chandeliers and rather than having its lights exposed, the tip or the lower end employs types of shades which is for the same reason the fixture is described as the pendant light fixture. A pendant lighting fixture is also called a suspender or a drop and most often if single-hanging entities without the extra branches are used alone can give dramatic effect when two or three are used together suspended at varying heights. The light may be stripped to a bare bulb suspended from a cord, or housed in a decorative shade crafted from glass, resin, metal or fabric. During its earliest days, the pendant featured a crude type of blown glass shell, which eventually evolved into a huge style conscious make. Today, the variety of styles combined with customers demand has made pendant lights on par with other forms of lighting fixtures. A closer look around pendant lighting online store will surprise you with the extent to which this type of lighting has evolved.

The Why’s and What’s of Pendant Lighting

One of the crucial features of the pendant lights is its versatility. Pendants can often be found in living room, small foyers, kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms and it can suit each space with equal ease. Pendants lights are much different from other types of lights and command the same respect as jewellery. They sparkle, enlighten, and soften a clean, austere environment. In actuality, pendant lights can be every bit as fancy as chandeliers, because one gets pendant lights studded with Swarovski crystals or dangling gemstones. One of the other most important benefits of pendant lights is it never needs re modifications of your existing space like drilling a hole in the ceiling as the case with recessed lights or hammering your walls for those classic wall scones. This drastically reduces the installation time along with peace of mind and yes, brings down your lighting investment. Pendant lighting fixtures do not have the grand scale of a tiered chandelier and are ideal when space and cost is a concern. Wherever space is an issue, mini-pendants can be hung from above, effectively freeing up space in the room for furniture and other things.

They are stylish, have a simple elegance, are functional and provide illumination in hard to light areas. Mini-pendants typically serve as task lights which define the work surface of a kitchen island or bar. Pendants can also be used to spice-up a room or to instigate authentic schemes. When hung in multiple, either multiple pendant fixtures or single pendant fixtures lined up in line, they can effectively set that evening calming mood. Another classic benefit of pendant lights is its wide options available in the market. It could be chosen for their varieties in different form, colour, pattern and texture and prices. Pendants are an eye catcher in it’s not something you want to cut corners on when considering a purchase. There are tons of styles and configurations available today and with a little persistence, you can find just the right fixture for both your décor and your budget. An inexpensive pendant gives you what you pay for and if it wears out, replacing it can be a chore that you won’t relish. A single pendant design fixture can cost very less to a five pendant traditional light costing bit more to the more traditional shade five pendant lights costing higher.

Pendant fixtures are normally used for general or task lighting. Using Pendant Lights Creatively

We all have some form of pendant lighting in our homes as this is the most common indoor light fixture for many homes.

When we talk about pendant lighting, we are referring to a light fitting that is suspended from the ceiling by an electrical flex and has some sort of light source, i.e.light bulb and lamp shade attached at the other end. Really speaking, pendant lighting is not just one type or style of light fixture. It can refer to chandelier lighting or just plain paper globes. Both of these light fixtures fall into the very broad category of pendant lighting.

By its very nature, pendant lighting is very noticeable and therefore it is wise to choose your pendants with great care. Pendant lights can range from the most simplistic of designs to the more decorative and ornamental styles so ensure that the type and style of pendant light you purchase, is one that complements the decor of the room. As well as aesthetics, you will also want to see how much light your potential pendant light will give out. Its not just the type of bulb that you have that determines the quality of light given out.

Factors such as the room size, the height of the light source above the floor, the size, shape and material of the pendant lampshade - all of these things affect the quality of light.

A lot of the pendant style lighting fixtures available these days draw heavily on their ancestors which, in the pre-electric days, were chandeliers often bearing multiple candles. A more modern day type of light fixture that is still included as a pendant light is the faithful paper globe. These come in all different sizes and easily dominate a room with their full blown shape.

Rise-and-fall pendant lights can be adjusted so that they can be placed at different heights from the floor. These are the types of pendants that you would typically adjust so that the light fixture hangs low over the dining table in order to produce a more intimate mood. The norm in many households is to have the pendant light in the centre of a room and then perhaps to supplement this light by various other light fixtures within the room.

A more creative way of using pendant lighting would be to have pendant lights in off-centre positions within the room, maybe to complement some of your interior furnishings or an ornamental object.

Pendant lighting can be used creatively to delineate areas of space within a room. So, by using your imagination and creative flair, you can use the lighting to segment your room into different areas, perhaps having an corner for listening to music or reading a book, for example. Also, having multiple pendant lights hanging together is a more effective way of showcasing your lighting and visually looks better too.

Even if you have pendant lights in different parts of the room, you do not necessarily have to ensure that they are identical provided that they still go together stylistically.

Pendant lighting is versatile, adaptable and is available in many styles and designs to suit every taste and pocket.
