7 Lucky Charms that Make Perfect Irish Wedding Gifts

Giving Irish wedding gifts, as with so many wedding customs in Ireland, is steeped in magical folklore and old-fashioned Irish superstition.

Deciding what gift to give your friends on their big day will be easier once you learn about a few of Ireland's traditional wedding gifts and what they signify.

The Bell
Whether the bell be made of pewter, brass, porcelain, or crystal, it will ward off the evil spirits that may be lurking to trip up the newlyweds.

Also known as a "make-up bell" or "wedding bell", it helps the Bride and Groom stay ever-mindful of their wedding vows and the love they shared on their wedding day. So whenever they are upset with each other one of them can ring the bell instead of walking away.

The Magic Hanky
There is a wonderful Irish wedding custom for the bride to carry a "magic" hanky on her wedding day.

After the nuptials, she keeps it in a special place saves it for her firstborn's christening, to dry her baby's face. A variation of this Irish wedding tradition is for the hanky to be converted into a christening bonnet, then converted back into a hanky for that child's wedding day.

The Wedding Coin
Another old Irish wedding tradition is for the Groom to give his Bride a coin after they exchange rings, as a symbol of prosperity. This custom originated back when the Groom would pay money to the Bride's family to bring them good fortune and joy.

A modern interpretation of this custom is for the Bride and Groom to exchange coins. They say if the coins touch each other during the exchange, the Bride and Groom will be blessed with many children.

The Lucky Horseshoe
The horseshoe has always been associated with good luck in Irish folklore. Brides traditionally carry a horseshoe with them on their wedding day for good luck.

After they set up their home together, the horseshoe is hung over their front door to continue to ward off evil and despair. Just remember, if you give the couple a horseshoe, give it to them with the "U" facing up - this way it stops the luck from draining out!

Other good luck charms that make great Irish wedding gifts include:

  • Salt and Pepper Shakers
So their home will never be without food.
  • Wine Glasses
So they will always have plenty to drink.
  • Candlestick Holders
So their home will always have light.

Giving gifts is an important part of the culture of hospitality in Ireland. So if you have been invited to an Irish wedding, it's important to choose your wedding gifts wisely. Hopefully some of these traditional Irish wedding gifts have given you some ideas.

History of Sterling Silver Jewelry Charms

Charms are also known as amulets and pendants. They are as popular today as they have been throughout recorded history. Ancient Egyptians wore bracelets with charms or amulets. They were used to protect against bad luck and evil forces. They began with religious symbols and became a part of everyday dressing.

Charms/jewelry were made of almost any material of value to people in their time. Many were made of precious metal. Others were made with gemstones inlaid in them or mounted with precious metals in the form of necklaces, crowns, staffs, and bracelets. Queen Victoria gets the credit for popularizing jewelry charms throughout Europe by wearing lockets or charms on her royal bracelets

America became enchante with Charms around the time frame of World War II. Soldiers returning from duty station brought with them various types of charms or pendants. Today popular charms are maded from Gold and Sterling silver. Other materials are still used in the making of charms.

Sterling Silver Charms today represent as many things as there are interests and personalities. Some charms or pendants represent the religious leanings of the wearer. They also represent the interest of the wearer such a musical instrument for a music lover, a pair of sneakers for a jogger, or ballet slippers for a ballerina. Imagination is the only limit for what a charm can represent. Silver charms are also used to commerate life events such as births, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or graduations.

Silver is a soft metal and its usage has been favored for centuries. It is used to make charms often related to religious worship. Silver has been a symbol of comfortable living. Sterling silver is much stronger than pure silver which is harder to work with when making pendants or charms. Sterling silver is approximately ninety percent silver. The last ten percent or so can be any one of the following: copper, zinc, or nickel and is more durable than pure silver but it still retains its inherent beauty.

Charms whether made of sterling silver or some other materials are often used to represent the person who wears or carries the charm. As has been mentioned however, they often represent the interests and personality of the wearer. During war particular items are given to the soldiers who are going off to fight. When a young teen-aged couple ’goes steady’ the young man generally gives the girl his ring or something of particular value to him. The girls might also do the same.

Charms have also been said to represent the particular spirituality of the wearer. Many people wear plain simple crosses while still others will wear the cross with the corpus - the body of Christ on it. Others wear saints medals. Lockets are worn with images of loved ones inside. Once used to ward against evil spirits, for good luck, and for protection in times of trouble charms have come to be an adornment for the wearer. Charm bracelets are gifts that keep on giving. A charm is often given for birthdays, graduations, a dance recital, or sports victory. They make wonderful gifts for young girls that will grow with them. There are charm necklaces as well.

Do Good Luck Symbols, Charms, & Talismans Really Work?

Symbols and symbolism are popular in almost every civilisation, culture and religion that has evolved on Earth. They are deeply ingrained in the way of our life itself. Symbols impact our subconscious mind and if their influences are strong enough, then they could stimulate confidence, effort and good outcomes. Whether we realize or not paintings, pictures, jewellery, statues, birds, animals and so forth have meanings and effect on us.

Mankind, after closely watching nature, events and environmental life over a period of centuries, has developed a vast and time tested database of Positive Symbols. When the geometric shape, size, meaning and their other nuances are properly understood and activated, it results in transmission/amplification of "energy" - the vital life force that governs everything in the Universe.

Some classical examples are Crystals, Pyramids, Vedic Yantras, Sacred Geometry, Maha Meru, Pancha Boodha Stupa, Vajra, Viswa Vajra, Rahu (Dorje Phurba), Fengshui Objects, et cetra.

Usage of positive symbols can alter energy flow and enhance the surrounding space. It is the easiest way to introduce positivism in our environment. They are normally categorised into 2 types : to remedy/cure a problem, to heal a situation; to act as a booster or enhancer to bring about harmony and prosperity. There are symbols (like Crystals) that when placed (after processing), can dissolve negative energy and also stream out purpose-solving, high positive energy. These symbols, when processed and positioned correctly, will definitely yield results.

By creating an environment rich with positive symbolism that elicit positive thinking, focused minds, confidence and innovativeness, progress and prosperity will result. We will then become aware of the life force in the environment in which the energy had been altered by us, thus enabling us to empower it. This powerful symbolism will reinforce our energy levels to benefit in every aspect of our lives.

For example, a Black Tourmalene Crystal Pendant can balance the emotions and calm the mind; a pair of Pink Mandarin Duck statuettes can bond a couple more strongly; a Viswa Vajra can protect one from negative entities; a Five Element Stupa can balance the five elements of nature and correct the vaastu/fengshui energy of land and building; a set of Sailing Ship Coins can instigate cash flow in Business; a Pyramid can accumulate Positive Energy; a Shri Yantra can remove financial blocks, a custom built Crystal Energy Field can bring in Health, Wealth, Harmony & Happiness, et cetra.

But how can merely the statue of a Phoenix bird bring motivation and new opportunities?

The shape and design of the gadget determines the nature of the energy that the remedy can receive and transmit. (2) The raw material and size decide the storage capacity and life of the remedy, when energised. (3) Programming of the remedy defines the problem to be solved or the purpose to be realised and the Programming only fully dedicates the energy of the remedy to the purpose and binds it to the person.

It is thus important to realise that the remedy by itself is only the hardware part (like a computer). You have to supply the electricity (energising) to switch it on and keep it running. But ultimately you have to supply the proper software (programming) to make it work. Appropriate placement then completes the circle.

There are some who would argue that the "shape" of the talisman or remedy itself does signify a specific energy and hence does not require any other processing. Sure it does : that's why it has been selected as an energy tool. For example, the shape of a majestic Elephant does signify the energies related to strength, shrewdness and long memory - but that alone is not suffiecient. The image or statue should definitely be energised in ways where it stores enough to last for a few years, not weeks. Then the stored energy should be programmed as to whom and for what purpose it should work. The programming also helps the remedy from being corrupted from the onslaught of negative energies that it surely has to face (on behalf of it's owner), once activated. This way, if and when the vital positive energy of the remedy is critically overwhelmed by negativity at one stage, the remedy simply breaks and declares it's inability to serve (it's owner) further, rather than damage it's owner.

Will a Laughing Buddha or a Crystal or a Yantra bought off the shelf give results?

The simple answer is a firm "no", if it has not been programmed and energised. Merely energising will not help. The energy needs to be stabilised, sealed and then directed through "specialised" programming.

In fact, the source of the energy remedies play an important role in determining the effectiveness. Many who buy the same Fengshui product from two different sources will find that one is working so well and the other may not. But they never bother to ask why that happens. The answer is subtle, the source determines the "root energy" stored in the products.

(1) It is a key element (the root energy) that the qualified expert (who is going the sell/channel the remedies) checks before selecting. Then the products are (2) cleansed (of negativities that arise during manufacturing/changing hands), (3) instilled with auspicious and positive energy and (4) kept in proper storage area that has a strong positive energy belt before being sold. Finally, when sold, (5) the expert programs the remedy to the purpose and the user and explains the (6) ideal placement of the energy tool in his/her place.

Then and only then will these remedial tools yield results.

In modern living, where the environment at macro level is highly influenced by many factors beyond our control, micro level energy correction done with empowered remedies can effectively bring in and retain Health, Wealth, Harmony and Happiness.

Bewitching Jewelry -- Amulets, Talismans and Charms

Throughout the ages, men and women have used gemstones and crystals in personal ornaments and body decorations as bewitching jewelry. Wearing them as charms, talismans or amulets, they were believed to possess the power to ward off evil spirits (or attract benevolent ones), keep one safe from harm, or to find love. To this day, many people of all ages and from all walks of life believe in the magical power of certain gems and make bewitching jewelry part of their everyday attire.

Take pearls, for instance. In the olden days, if a maiden wanted a man to fall in love with her, she would put pearls ground into a fine powder into a glass of wine and somehow get him to drink it. A pretty costly way to catch a man, that method. Nowadays, wearing pearls is believed to enhance one’s inner character and bring about peace and serenity. Gold is another example of bewitching jewelry. Since time immemorial, it has captured the fascination of all people, and is one of the cornerstones of the science of alchemy. Gold is used to enhance the power of other gemstones, hence its popular use as a setting. It is also believed to attract wealth and influence, because the wearer is perceived to be strong and powerful.

Bewitching jewelry is not confined to fashionable purposes. The Indian warriors of old used to have swords that were adorned with garnets, secure in the belief that this would bring them luck in battle. Today, garnet jewelry presented as a gift signifies the giver’s feelings of eternal love and commitment. It can also be worn as a charm to increase sensuality and sexuality. Similarly, diamonds are said to aid in the release of sexual tension and to help the wearer enjoy a fantastic sex life. I wonder what that says about girls who treat diamonds as their best friend?

Sapphires are benevolent examples of bewitching jewelry. Aside from preserving friendships and promoting loyalty, they are also believed to protect the wearer from capture. Turquoise is likewise popular as a talisman because of its alleged property of changing colors when the wearer is in peril. Plus, it is used in amulets in many cultures because it is believed to be a bringer of luck.

There are many, many other beliefs regarding the use of gemstones as bewitching jewelry. They may be worn as talismans, charms, amulets or simply as fashion accessories. But for many people today, as in the ancient times, jewels are chosen not only for their beauty, but for the perceived benefits that they will bring to the wearer as well.

A Buyers Guide To Finding The Best Deals On Wholesale Italian Charms

It's absolutely the easiest thing to start up your own online jewelry business! You'll need to get your license via your local chamber of commerce, but once you've got that you can begin searching for wholesale jewelry products that you'll be selling online.

Unless you are planning on making your own jewelry (something to think about in the future?) you'll need to develop a relationship with a wholesaler. A wholesaler is the company or organization or person who buys large quantities of a product and sells to merchants or retailers (you) who then sell to the public. Wholesalers, because they buy their product in bulk, are able to sell the product at a much cheaper price than you would find in a retail store. Say, for example, that you want to sell Italian charms. In order for you to make a good profit and yet keep your products at a reasonable price, you'll need to find Italian charms at wholesale prices.

The Internet is the perfect place to locate wholesalers and there are literally countless suppliers of Italian charms. The first thing to do is to try a search for "Italian charms wholesale" or something like that. That will bring up lots of websites and you'll have to sift through them all to find the appropriate wholesaler for your needs. You should already know exactly what you want to be selling. Try to find a wholesaler who'll be able to provide you with all the Italian charms you want as well as any other jewelry or materials that you'll need. It will be much easier, especially in the beginning, to develop a business relationship with the one company that can deliver all your needs at once.

Do try to determine that the company you choose is a wholesaler or manufacturer who sells wholesale, that way you'll probably be securing the best price. A broker is a business person who sells on behalf of a company for a commission. This will probably mean a higher price for you. Read up on the company's history, usually found on the "About Us" page. Determine the level of experience of your wholesaler. A long history in online ordering certainly makes for a better service.

The next important thing to check up on is the policy your wholesale supplier has on returns and faulty merchandise. As a retailer you need to be happy about your product in order to sell it. As such, you need the assurance of the wholesaler that if you are not satisfied with the product you buy they'll accept it back, no questions asked. Any wholesaler who cannot do this is not worth getting involved with.

Lastly, make sure your Italian charms wholesaler has a massive selection of charms. Italian charms are always popular so you'll need to think about your future sales right from the start. Make sure you find a wholesaler with an impressive selection of charms and one that is always updating stock. That means you'll always be able to provide your customers with the best products.

Where's Me Pot of Gold and Lucky Charms?

We already know this from our history books. If you want to make money today, you must first look back in time to the first time in history that a large portion of our country all tried to get rich at the same time in the same place. The first discovery of gold was at Sutter's Mill by James W. Marshall in 1948, Mr. Sutter's mill contractor and builder. This discovery sprang thousands upon thousands of ambitious individuals to get rich which we refer to as the "Gold Rush."

As you can imagine, these people were not that much different from the thousands of new entrepreneurs trying to get rich on the Internet. But out of all those thousands of people seeking their fortunes, only about 4% to 6% of them even found enough gold to feed themselves. And history books tell us that less than 1% ever became wealthy. This is so similar to the Internet of today that the two are worth comparing.

BUT Wait! A completely different group of people became extremely wealthy in those exact same gold fields...

Who were these people who managed to get rich during those hard times?

They were the people who opened little stores not far from where all the people were digging and panning for gold! These people were the smartest group because they chose to sell the tools that they knew all those gold diggers were going to need. This special group of individuals some how knew that it was a waste of time to dig and pan for gold. This amazing group of people wanted something with better odds. They wanted a sure thing!

They knew that the miners couldn’t mine unless they had clothing, tools, and food. So these genius store owners made their fortunes selling the shovels, jackets, pants, wheel barrows, picks, pans, beer, food, hats, medicine and etc. So it didn't matter to them if a miner found gold and got rich or whether that miner couldn't find an ounce of gold. It just didn't matter to the men and women who owned the stores because no matter what, all those people in search of gold still needed massive amounts of supplies to live and more tools to keep trying. The shopkeepers were always there to sell all these supplies!

Whether gold was found or not, during any given day, the shop keepers made the same consistent amount of solid income!

Below you're about to find out why all this is relevant to you and your Internet income.

You now know that history has proven that if you do exactly what the masses of people are doing to get rich, you'll most likely fail. And you now know that if you provide products or services to that large group of people that are all trying to get rich, you'll most likely become wealthy. It's simple! Turn those gold diggers into your customers!

Just for a moment, separate yourself from the rest of them - sit back and relax. While sitting there, watch what they are doing; pay attention to what they are looking for and what they are using to get it. Once you have figured these things out you will know what to do to turn them into your customers.

But in case you don't, here's the simple answer to how you're about to turn all of today's Internet gold diggers into your own customers. First of all, you must ask yourself this question: "What is the single most important thing to all of today's Internet gold diggers? What do they crave and desire the most?"

The answer is "Traffic." In case you're new to the Internet, the word "Traffic," of course, means visitors to your web site. It doesn't take Internet marketers long to figure out that even though they have a professional web site up, not a single person is ever going to visit that web site unless it gets advertised. You have to know where to get traffic and generate MORE traffic.

With all that in mind, I'm about to discuss a very important subject and it may be very controversial to some, and even cause me to lose a few customers but I MUST make my point.

You hear this from people around you, your teachers, your advisors, even television, "knowledge is power." Do you agree?

Please explain.

I've asked a few people this same question and some have explained, "Well, yeah, without knowledge you have no authority."

"Well, it's obvious, without knowledge you have no power."

"Knowledge is what gets the job done in your everyday task."

While these are good explanations, I disagree. You're baffled. Totally understandable because I'm probably the only person on Earth standing up to this worldwide, coined phrase. So I better begin explaining myself before I start receiving hate mails. Allow me to explain by using an example.

Electricity.

Can you agree electricity is power? It has the power to turn your lights on, it's what plays your radio, and it's what starts up your car. Or does it? Electricity doesn't just magically turn your light on, automatically play your radio nor does it mysteriously start your engine. No. The electricity HAS TO BE APPLIED.

Like electricity, knowledge doesn't magically write your sales letter, knowledge doesn't automatically file your folders and knowledge doesn't mysteriously tune up your car. It has to be "APPLIED."

"Where are you going with this," you might ask.

Simply this, "knowledge" is only POTENTIAL POWER. All the knowledge that you hold within you is nothing unless you put it to use. That's it. If after reading this article and you decide to do nothing then you will have wasted your time and effort. Unless you apply what I've taught you, you will have thrown away your money. You can learn from my 4 years of experience or you can ignore it, the choice is yours.

I'm not here to change your mind about anything, I'm just pointing out important aspects to consider and I can only hope it has opened your mind and drive you to take action.

Trinkets, Lockets And Empty Pockets

Trinkets, Lockets And Empty Pockets

It never ceases to amaze me how many people set-up a website, without any type of plan or clue about how to promote it, how to write a sales letter, how to write an ad-- nothing!

Even more amazing is how many people try to conduct business online without any money.

The other day, I received an e-mail from a woman named Nadia inquiring about my E-mail Consultation Service.

In her e-mail, she explained she had "empty pockets" and couldn't afford my subscription fee. However, since her ancestors were gypsies, she had plenty of jewelry and she'd be willing to pay me with a few "trinkets and lockets," in exchange for my help. I politely declined her offer.

I get my share of crazy e-mails, so I have no idea if that one was a hoax or not. I'm assuming it was, since I never heard back from Nadia. Besides, I get so many e-mails every day from people asking me for free help and advice, I generally skim over them quickly and delete them.

People, listen to me, please! You can't conduct business online or offline without any money. You just can't do it! Now I'm not saying you need thousands of dollars--although that wouldn't hurt.

However, you need to at least have two or three hundred dollars in the bank to work with.

It's a myth that you can make money without having any money- -just a myth!

The number one reason why most businesses fail is because they're undercapitalized. They come online with just enough money to buy one ad--hoping to make a killing!

If that ad happens to be a success--bingo, instant cash flow! But if that one ad fails, just like that, they're out of business.

I know you're excited about your new business, and you can't wait to get started. However, instead of rushing into things, take a few more weeks or months to save up a little more money, and then get started.

Doing it that way does require a little more patience. But by having a little money to fall back on, you give yourself a greater chance to succeed, and in the long run, you'll be a lot better off!

Choosing Sterling Silver Charms

When it comes to charm bracelets, it seems that gold is out. People prefer sterling silver charms because of their look. Somehow, silver just seems more appropriate for it. Sterling silver charm bracelets have the sophisticated look of jewelry, yet remain casual enough for daily use. Collecting is also an activity that comes with having a charm bracelet. Sterling silver charms are cheaper than gold ones and are tougher.

However, there are a lot of different sterling silver charms to choose from. This means that putting a sterling silver charm together can be a bit complicated. Here are some things you should consider when choosing sterling silver charms:

Age - When you are buying a sterling silver charm, you should definitely check if the charm is an antique. Popular charms today come from the world- war 2 Era. Often, these charms can be found in online auction sites such as E-bay. You need to be careful, however, as many charm dealers tend to hype their products by promoting them as "vintage", when they are not.

The age of the charm can also be used as a theme for your sterling silver charm bracelet. Buying sterling silver charms based on their age is not as uncommon as you think. This helps give your sterling silver charm bracelet an appearance of time-travel. This transforms you sterling silver charm bracelet into a time capsule, serving to remind you of times past.

Design - You should also try to buy sterling silver charms which have significant designs. These designs should hold special meaning either individually or as a group for you. When choosing a sterling silver charm design, people often look at these factors:

Symbolism - Some people tend to choose sterling silver charm designs based on their symbolism. Designs have different meanings and interpretations depending on the context of their usage. Because of this, you have to think of what a certain sterling silver charm design means to you before you get it. You should also consider what it could mean to other people.

Fit - Some people choose certain sterling silver charms because the designs fit into their theme. It is essential that a buyer has a specific theme in mind when buying sterling silver charms.

Now, the variety of designs of sterling silver charms gives plenty of leeway for fitting a charm into a theme. This, of course, can be attributed to the various interpretations of various designs. Fitting a sterling silver charm to a certain theme can be either blatant or subtle.

You could try to find a sterling silver charm that's obviously connected to other charms on your bracelet or you could choose to add one that has a special connection in terms of symbolism.

Memory - Some people choose specific sterling silver charm designs because these designs may trigger specific memories. For example, a sterling silver charm with a car design can trigger the memory of a special trip. People do associate events in their lives with certain images. Because of this, a sterling silver charm design can keep reminding a person of a certain cherished experience in his or her life.

Choosing sterling silver charms can actually be pretty simple once you have a clear idea of what you want. Being humans, however, we rarely truly know what we want so it's best to think carefully before reaching for your wallet.

Italian Link Charms

Italian charms are usually loosely dangling bracelets that are made of flat, modular links that hook together to form Italian charm bracelet, key chain, or another accessory. Traditional Italian charms dangle, but there are some that can be fitted to wrap the wrist. The Italian charms can be recognized by the individual pieces, or modules, soldered flat onto the surface of the link.

The standard size of an Italian Charm is the medium 9 mm charm, however, Italian charms are available in a range of sizes starting from small charms of 5 mm size, medium, being 9 mm, large in the 13 mm range and mega 18 mm charm sizes. Since sizes are consistent across all Italian charm brands, the charms are universally compatible and the symbols and modules can be interchanged.

Italian charm bracelets come in three basic sizes: small, medium, and large. Shopping for these is an easy task, as most women fall into one of the three basic size categories. The small bracelets contain seventeen charm links, while medium bracelets have eighteen and large bracelets consist of nineteen charm links. Links may be added or subtracted to these charms to make a charm bracelet of any size of choice. Italian charms can be worn on bracelets and designed such that they suit different tastes and are reflective of the wearer's interests or personality. A bracelet may be made entirely of Italian charms or an alternating pattern of Italian charms and blank links.

There is no dearth of ways to display Italian charms. The links on these can be functional as well as decorative, be they for necklaces, bracelets, or watches. The stronger links allow for everyday wear and easy interchangeability of these and Italian charms are increasingly being used to decorate cell phones by simply adding them on to a loop attachment at the end of a cell phone with blank links. If nothing else, then key chains are also a way to display Italian charms.

Gold Italian Charms

Italian Charms come in tens of thousands of designs and can symbolize almost anything in the world such as colleges, buildings, monuments, places, food, animals, cartoons, sports, phrases- even birthday cakes and decorations! The charms usually made of gold or gold plating, can be interchanged to make a new charm everyday. These links are easy enough to interchange and offer versatility to the wearer. Charms are the most popular jewelry items for gifting and small, elegant purchases for self.

Gold Italian Charms originated in Italy and are usually made out of two base metals, such as copper or iron, plated with 18 K gold and enamel. Nothing looks classier than gold, and a gold plated Italian Charm can catch one's eye like no other piece of jewelry. Quality gold Italian charm manufacturers and exporters offer thousands of pieces, each better than the other, with seasonal and festive discounts for bulk and retail customers. All gold Italian charms are made from high quality stainless steel, which is later painted with gold enamel, then decorated with semiprecious gems such as garnets and lapis. This gold enamel gives the charm a very beautiful and sparkling appearance. Shining stainless steel and gold make an absolutely breathtaking contrast. In the gold category of Italian charms, the ones most in demand are symbols of the zodiac, letters of the various alphabets of the world, animals and hearts, sports and hobbies, apart from an ever widening range of designs, modified every day to suit customer demands.

The more exclusive gold Italian Charms are made of white gold, which is comparatively costlier and rarer, but can be bought from a reputed retailer who may have a host of Christmas charms, 14-karat gold charms, bracelet charms, and crown charms. For those wanting to be different from the rest, this white gold Italian charm might well be a rare choice when it comes to charms, but if looking for love, this is one jewelry gift few are known to resist.

Cheap Italian Charms

The cheapest Italian charms are made of brass and there are many places to buy them. It is advisable to buy Italian charms from reputed retailers to get value for money. Most of the cheap charms are made of brass and care must be exercised to prevent them from tarnishing. Most Italian charms are ornamental in nature and thus require extra care in inspecting the springs of the links. One thumb rule for potential buyers of cheap Italian charms is that the tighter the links, the better the charm.

An Italian charm is a piece of semi-precious jewelry, consisting of two pieces of iron or copper base plates that are plated with 18K gold and enamel. These base metals are used for sturdiness as also gold plating lasts for a long time on these metals. Semiprecious stones such as lapis and garnets are sometimes used to decorate the charm but mostly zirconium, better known as CZ, is the choice of charm makers. After decoration with stones, the charm is painted with enamel. This enamel is never fired onto the char, but painted. After careful sorting of the charms, the best are selected and soldered onto a link.

Cheap Italian charms and bracelets allow for self-expression. The assembling and wearing of any particular interlocking links can represent an individual's favorite passions. Italian charms are the in-thing in jewelry, available in a multitude of designs and representing different elements. The popular Italian charm designs include places, food, colleges, animals, cartoons, sports, phrases and birthday cakes, to name a few.

The cost of Italian charms starts from an affordable $4.95 and may go up to $29.00 at times. It is advisable to buy cheaper Italian charms from reputed stores, as there are always discount deals available, with some that go as high as 50 percent. The wide range of design and price choices suit most budgets and occasions, making cheap Italian charms the ideal gift idea for self and loved ones alike.

Decoupage How To Charms, Brooches And Pendants

Making your own jewelry is as fundamentally rewarding as it is lovely to wear. Most people associate decoupage with furniture or pottery, but the technique translates well into some very creative jewelry. The following article discusses how to make simple jewelry using the decoupage craft method.

The basic supplies required for decoupage jewelry include sheets of chip board, scissors, decoupage sealer (that also doubles as your adhesive), and pretty paper. Various jewelry findings will be needed to finish off your pieces to make them into true jewels like jump rings, chains, hooks, pin backs, etc?

A pin is probably the easiest item to create. For instance, find an image you like on thin paper?glossy wrapping paper works well. Let?s say it?s a Victorian cherub or rosebud bouquet. Cut your chip board to the size of your pendant-size image. Glue your image with the sealer to the chip board. Paint the back of your chipboard red or some corresponding color so the piece will look finished from front to back. When the paint is dry, give the back a coat or two of sealer allowing each layer to dry before applying the neck.

The front of the piece may require more than simply your cut-out bouquet. A nice touch would be to frame it with a very thin border of gold foil, but you can make a frame from any paper. Now, give the whole front of the piece about three coats of sealer. Since this is going to be worn against the skin, be sure to use a non-toxic decoupage sealer (most available from the craft store will be non-toxic). Lacquer is also used to coat a decoupage project, but since it is not a non-toxic product, avoid it for jewelry projects.

When the front is dry, you can glue your pin pack and place and wear it. For charms, you will and pendants, you will simply vary the size of your item and poke a hole in each piece for a jump ring to fit. When complete, the jump ring can be attached to a chain or bracelet sporting your new charms or pendant.

Some great images for decoupage include traditional cameo pictures, silhouettes, leaves, flowers, butterflies, etc?In the case of the charm bracelet, vary the shapes with ovals, squares, circles and rectangles. The charms can even be fashioned into earrings if your have fish hooks available. Decoupage jewelry also makes some great holiday jewels depicting vintage Halloween or Christmas images.

Charms Make Perfect Gifts

If you are thinking of a present to give to somebody, have you ever thought of giving them charms that they could use as a pendant or as something they could hang on their bracelets. You could include with the gift a bracelet or a necklace and then every special occasion you can give them additional charms or pendants to add or use as a substitute for the ones they currently have.

These gifts will be appreciated by people of different ages and backgrounds irregardless of their gender or race. They make perfect gifts not only because they look so adorable but every charm could somehow represent a significant or important moment in their life that they could treasure as a special remembrance.

I know of somebody who has a bracelet full of charms, some given by friends and some she purchased herself. The charms on her bracelet somehow reflect the different experiences and memorable moments in her life. One of her charms is a flag to constantly remind her of her heritage and culture. She has an Eiffel Tower charm to remind her of her honeymoon in romantic Paris. You could also do the same with your very own charms as well as when you give these to friends or family as a gift.

You can find these trinkets in a variety of designs, shapes, sizes and style to find a perfect fit for whom you will be giving it to. You could start by buying a charm bracelet with a single or several charms and your recipient would then just add charms according to her tastes or you could give her one every time there would be any special occasion. In time the charms will accumulate that not only looks cute and attractive but would also begin to tell a story of the different memorable experiences in her life.

It is important though that when you buy charms for someone that you know well the person you are giving it to so that you would have at least a general ides of what she will like. If you will be giving a man a charm or pendant for his necklace, opt to buy those that are masculine looking so that he would use it. You also have to consider the size as well as the weight of the charm. Quite often it does not look nice to have very big charm on a bracelet with small chains. Also, others don?t look good with very big charms or pendants on their necklaces especially if they have small necks. If you will be buying from the internet verify if the charm you will be buying is flat, 3d or hollow. It is imperative that you select an online store that provides products that are of quality and can provide good customer service.

Purse Charms: A Delightful Jewelry Trend

Often, when you see a new trend hit the marketplace, you have to wonder how long it will be before it's shuttled off to the clearance rack! However, every once in a while, you see something bound to become a fashion staple because it fits the criteria for long term popularity. My hot pick for 2007 is: Purse Charms.

What is a purse charm? It's a cross between a key chain and a cell phone charm. Clip them on your handbag straps or purse rings, they are as simple to change as a necklace, bracelet or any other piece of jewelry. There are three major categories that determine how well a trend will do in the marketplace:

  • Versatility: You can literally clip these anywhere, purses, belt loops, etc. Get creative with your clipping!
  • Customer Appeal: Unlimited styles, virtually any standard materials, etc.
  • Wide Range of Prices: From a few dollars to tens of thousands

Evidently, some top designers feel the same. Dooney & Burke, Marc Jacobs are just two of the top designers specifically designing purse charms to sell as accessories to their handbags. So watch for more styles and colors as this jewelry trend takes off and hits the stores.

Want a quirky moment, a momento of a special occasion or a reminder of a goal? Keep it on a purse charm. It's the adult version of clipping all those keychains on your backpack as we see kids do nowadays. Purse charms can be any length and made out of any material including crystals, gold, sterling silver and wood beads. Chunky or chic, there is a style to match your mood.

It's fun, it's fabulous and it's bound to be around for a long time! This is certainly a trend that will earn it's rightful place in the fashion accessory world. And, I'm excited over this jewelry accessory, it's my choice for the 2007 Hot Jewelry Pick!

Totally Charming - Charms Of Yesterday And Today

Charms have a long and colorful history, but as their name suggests, their initial use had more to do with the paranormal and mysterious than cosmetic jewelry. Coveted by Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, it wasn?t until the late 19th Century that their rise to a predominately fashion-oriented audience took hold. Nevertheless, more than other forms of jewelry, charm bracelets and necklaces often tell a story.

The ancient Egyptians, people obsessed by beauty and mysticism, were the first culture to make collecting charms for bracelets and necklaces an exclusive hobby, creating bejeweled charms of precious metals and gemstones. These LA-esque bling-obsessed poseurs of yesterday, fashioned all sorts of charms to ward off evil, denote status, and like their other beaded designs, prepare them for a glorious afterlife. While we have no idea how they fared in that higher place, we can thank them for leaving some remarkable pieces of jewelry and an art that has transcended through the ages.

Not to be outdone, Christians in Roman times used a special charm called an ichthys shaped in a child-like image of a fish. You might think ichthys means fish in some archaic tongue but, it is in fact, an acronym from the ancient Greek for ?Jesus Christ God?s Son Is Saviour?. Given this literal interpretation, it?s hardly surprising these fish-shaped charms were a mark for certain death to bearers if discovered. However, they were successfully used as a method to identify fellow Christians, although they were kept well hidden under clothes unless in a safe environment.

Similarly, centuries later, medieval knights adorned themselves with charms when heading into battle in the hope their charms would mysteriously bring victory and safety. Their wives too wore charms of precious metals as tokens of luck during childbirth and to ensure their family was protected against disease. Even surgeons of the day wore them, and given the patient mortality rates, you can understand why ? they needed all the help they could get! You can still find bracelets from this time in English antique stores. They?re very expensive but utterly fascinating.

Although charm bracelets and necklaces never completely died out, by the Renaissance, attraction to all things mystical waned. It was Queen Victoria who rediscovered their appeal during the 19th Century. She often said she was not really interested in jewelry, but given the collection of treasures she amassed, it seems quite likely she had her fingers crossed behind her back when she said this. The Queen had effigies of her children and later grandchildren made, which she attached to bracelets. She often included them as gifts to female member of her enormous, extended family ? the most popular being portraits of her beloved Albert.

It?s from Victoria?s interest that charm bracelets and necklaces became family heirlooms with enormous sentimentality attached to them. For families, each charm told a story of the previous wearer and also provided an opportunity for the current generation to add onto for the next in the family line. As eras changed, so did the styles of the charm bracelet. Consequently today, antique charms reflect designs from the Georgian through to Art Nouveau periods.

During and after World War II, collecting charms for bracelets and necklaces became even more popular. Soldiers picked up charms throughout Europe and Asia as mementos for their loved ones and the increase in travel meant charms were bought as souvenirs by those lucky enough to be able to afford leaving their own shores.

Modern charms can be made from just about any material, cost permitting. Gold and silver aside, some of the most magnificent charms are studded with precious jewels or the jewels themselves set in drops. Thankfully, the production of pewter has made charm collecting far more accessible for most of us and you can find truly lovely and interesting charms at very affordable prices in both silver and gold colors.

Of course, there are no rules when beginning to create a charm bracelet or necklace. It?s probably best to stick to one color metal but the theme can be anything you want ? ancient Egypt, celestial (sun, moon and stars), animals or insects, fashion etc. Charm bracelets make ideal, interesting and cost-effective presents as the recipient can then add charms of their choice. It also means you can present further charms on other occasions to add to the bracelet. Most importantly, like anything to do with beads and jewelry-making, creating charm bracelets and necklaces should be fun!

Bingo Lucky Charms

The popularity of the game of bingo has been growing increasingly since its earliest history. Millions of pounds and dollars are made annually in towns across the USA and Europe / Britain that have bingo halls. And in recent times, online bingo has taken the Internet by storm. Thousands ? even millions can be won with each click and there are numerous fun bingo sites from which to choose.

Bingo, like all gambling related activities, is a game of chance. It stands to reason that many of the people who play bingo regularly believe quite passionately in luck, and since the earliest days of bingo, players have come to rely of lucky charms which they hope will bring them the best possible luck when playing.

The fact that people use lucky charms may seem silly to some, but because players are often intensely involved in the entire bingo experience, many of them would strongly disagree. There are numerous websites developed to help bingo players with their game. In the same way as gamblers blow on the dice, so bingo players hold onto their lucky charms. Many players claim that they never win unless they have their lucky charms with them or go through their personal little bingo ?rituals?.

According to research undertaken over the past few years, almost half of regular bingo players have some sort of special or lucky charm, symbol or ritual that they incorporate into every bingo game. This applies for both on and offline bingo. Some of these rituals are very simple like making sure they sit at the same seat every evening. Another common ritual is using the same dauber at every bingo game. Some players have a favorite color that they believe brings them luck like blue or red.

Chances are, if you play on or offline bingo among a large group of people, you?ve noticed some interesting outfits being worn. Many people wear different ?lucky? clothes to bingo halls for luck. Some wear bobbles, trinkets or stripes.

Other times, you?ll see one or two bingo players surrounded by stuffed animals. These are their lucky charms. Many bingo players who have bingo lucky charms will tell you that teddy bears bring luck. The more you have, the luckier you?ll be when it comes to winning, they state.

Whether bingo charms work or not, they add to the whole experience, give other players something to talk about and compare with each other, and if they?re not harming anyone else, then why not enjoy the fun and color they bring to bingo!

Charms

Since ancient times, charms have held a very significant place in society. May it be for superstitious reasons or for their quaint and delicate beauty, men and women around the world have used them since the beginning of time.

Charms come in various forms, from bracelets and amulets to pendants and necklaces. Each one of these have their own individual beauty and significance. The first proper record of charms being used dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Charms held a religious significance for these people and were believed to be a key element for a passage into the afterlife. This is evident from the several charm artifacts found in the Egyptian tombs.

The advent of Christianity several centuries later, brought along with it a whole new era for charms. The crosses and fish charms called ?ichthys? became popular among the followers of the religion. The horseshoe charm, which evolved around the same era, is still considered lucky.

Later on, during the Middle Ages, charms assumed a whole new meaning. They were used along with incantations and spells to curse enemies and protect the ones wearing them. During he Renaissance period, the importance and significance of charms faded as the print media spread education and did away with superstition. However, charms saw a revival during Queen Victoria?s reign where they were used more as ornamental jewelry than for mysticism.

Today, charms have very little superstitious or religious significance and are used primarily as jewelry items. Charm bracelets, necklaces, anklets and amulets go very well with most attire and hence have become a popular fashion accessory. With their myriad

variety and beautiful designs, charms are a perfect way to compliment ones individuality and lifestyle.

Sterling Silver Charms

Mysterious and subtle magical practices are associated with moon which colors are white and silver as the metal to be used... as it is used in our fine collection of Sterling Silver Charms, stamped, engraved or three-dimensional cast. Explore the lunar energy magic by wearing our Sterling Silver Charms with the confidence of getting better quality and durability, starting with our original designs by themselves. Most silver jewelry is easily maintained by wiping with a soft, clean cloth to retain its luster and beauty, and avoiding contact with soap, perfume, hairsprays and other cosmetics. With minimal cost and care Silver Italian Charms may add a touch of distinction to your charming presence. In Jewelry, the standard for sterling silver has remained unchanged throughout the centuries since 1300 when King Edward I of England established the early trade practice rule for silversmiths, by means of decreeing that sterling must consist of 92.5 percent pure silver metal alloyed with 7.6 percent copper. As for today, the term "sterling" refers to the composition of the metal, and not to the weight of a finished item either small or large. Sterling Silver Charms sometimes may be marked as 925, in which case meaning that 925 parts per thousand of the piece are pure silver. Silver-plated is not silver metal, just a layer of silver bonded to any other base metal, and vermeil (pronounced as "ver-may") is a special type of gold plated product, consisting of a base of sterling silver coated or plated with gold. Jewelry made of silver parts and gold parts must carry dual designations such as "Sterling and xxK". According to the law, all quality-marked silver must bear the name or an American registered trademark of the company's name or person that will stand behind such mark. It is renown that silver is much more plentiful than gold, but tends to tarnish, making it less popular as the metal to be used in some forms of jewelry. As with gold, silver is too soft that it simply cannot be used in its pure state and must be combined other metals to enhance its durability.

The hidden Melbourne - the lesser known natural charms

Think of Melbourne, and chances of most will think of a hep and happening city, a huge cricket stadium, one or two lovely beaches and a wonderful population. The fact that it has been voted as the best place to live in many times draw focus to the concrete infrastructure. Yet, hidden from the knowledge or itinerary of many who visit Melbourne for a day or two, are a whole host of spectacular charms. Melbourne's geological position presents it with an astonishing variety of landscapes and rockfaces. Built on the confluence of lave flows and Silurian mudstones, it follows the Yarra River and the Dandenong Ranges, spreading into a flat country later on. The ocean-side situation further provides it access to the oceanic geology. The result is an astonishing variety of landscapes and natural wonders with breathtaking scenic beauty.

Northeast of the city proper one can see the beautiful Yarra Valley. The Black Spur Drive is an enchanting 30 minutes drive between Healesville and Marysville. The drive links the Yarra Valley with the mountains around Marysville, and crosses through tall trees, fragrant air and heady scenery. The famous Lady Talbot Forest Drive is a round-trip drive of 46 kilometers through rare old growth myrtle beech forests, boulders, gorges and creeks lined with ferns and mosses. The drive takes one through the Marysville State Forest and the Yarra Ranges National Park with rolling valleys of eucalyptus. Nearby is the Steavenson Falls Reserve which is full of pristine mountain ash, mountain gray gum, peppermint, and other trees. It has any number of beautiful walks, one of which will take you to the top of the central attraction - the Steavenson Falls, 84 meters tall and one of the highest in Victoria. The Mt. Donna Buang Rainforest Gallery is situated within the Yarra Valley providing another unforgettable forest experience. At one end of the Yarra, merely one hour from the Melbourne CBD, is the SkyHigh - the summit of the Dandenong Ranges. If offers a wonderful vista of the whole city and nearby landscape amid its cool ferns and verdant ageless forests. It offers a spectacular sight after sundown as the stars pop out of the sky - one by one - and as the city lights are switched on to welcome the dark night. While you savor this stellar performance you can enjoy the SkyHigh caf? and bistro, or you can light your own barbeque. With a beautifully crafted garden and trails, SkyHigh has something for everyone. One can take the picturesque and enchanting Mt. Dandenong Tourist Road to arrive at the Mt. Dandenong Observatory.

The Mornington Peninsula, on the other hand, much south of the city proper, is a haven for the beach lovers. Mornington has an endless parade of beaches. The Frankston is a large and safe sandy beach popular for all sea activities - including swimming, snorkeling, sailboarding, yachting and diving. Safeguarded by a Lifeguard club, this is a popular family picnic spot and is also known as a boating location. Between Mount Eliza and Mornington there are a large number of small bay beaches, like the Daveys Bay, Ranelagh and Sunnyside beaches and the Canadian and Half Moon bays. Mornington itself is another focal point of other spectacular beaches. Around this picturesque bay harbor lie the Scout, the Mill, Shire Hall, Fishermans and other beaches. In fact the list is quite endless. You could visit the Mount Martha beaches, the Safety Beach, the Dromana, the Rosebud, the Rye or Blairgowrie, the Sorrento Front Beach or the Portsea Front Beach.....Just across the Port Bay from Mornington are the two fabulous pair of the French island and the Philip Island. But let these two enchantments be a tale for another day.... The simple fact is that far too many people shy away from exploring the Melbourne hinterland - a treasure trove of natural spectacles. Far too many...

Amethyst: History and Symbols

Amethyst is popularly regarded as a gemstone. Several names have been attributed to it due to its characteristics and variety in colors. The pinkish lavender shade is called ?Rose de France.? It is the least sought after variety compared to the intense violet shade called ?Siberian? which is the most-sought after shade of all. The latter shade is usually found not just in Siberia but also in the African region of Zambia and Uruguay. Ametrine on the other hand, is a gem of Bolivia which exhibits alternating bands of citrine orange and purple. Oriental amethyst is also the name of the purple corundum as well as fine samples of amethystine quartz which does not necessarily come from the Eastern regions of the globe.

Amethyst in History and its Symbolisms

Amethyst is generally known as the birthstone of February celebrators which indirectly links it to the horoscope calendar of Pisces, Aries, Sagittarius and Aquarius. High ranking officials of the Roman Catholic sect wear rings with amethyst stones as symbolism of their offices.

From the Greek word amethystos, it literally means not drunken. This name was an offshoot of its use in ancient times as an antidote for drunkenness. This also gave rise to the practice then of carving wine goblets from amethyst. According to Greek mythology, a maiden by the name of Amethystos was being pursued by the drunken Dionysus. Amethystos prayed to the gods for protection against Dionysus? unwanted affection. Artemis, the goddess heard her prayer so she transformed the maiden into a white stone. When Dionysus realized what happened to her, he poured wine over the stone as an act of offering. This act transformed the white stone to a crystal purple.

Another mythical story about the origin of amethyst involved the god Dionysus. He was angered by an insult coming from a mere mortal. He swore that the next mortal he will come across will die through the fierce tigers he has created to carry out his revenge. An unsuspecting maiden named Amethyst happened to be on her way to make an offering to the goddess Diana. Knowing what was bound to the happen to the poor mortal, the goddess changed Amethyst to a crystalline quartz to prevent her from being ravaged by the brutal tigers. The blinded Dionysus wept after knowing what happened to the mortal and the tears trickled to the crystals turning it to a purple color.

Amethyst - Historical and Modern

Amethyst is a popular gemstone. It has a number of characteristics and colors which have endeared people to its worth and enables it to be a popular choice for all types of jewelry. The pinkish lavender shade is called ?Rose de France.? It is less sought after than the intense violet shade called ?Siberian? which is the most-sought after shade of all. The latter shade is found in Siberia, Zambia and Uruguay. Ametrine comes from Bolivia which shows alternating bands of citrine orange and purple. Oriental amethyst is also the name of the purple corundum as well as fine samples of amethystine quartz which does not necessarily come from the Eastern regions of the globe.

During the 20th century, its purple color was attributed to manganese. However, the color or shades does not remain consistent and this led some to believe that the change is due to an organic content. Some studies showed that sulfur could be found in amethyst while some suggests the presence of ferric thiocyanate. When the amethyst is exposed to heat, the color changes to yellow which is why they are then referred to as burnt amethyst.

On its chemical composition, amethyst is produced by irregular superimposition of quartz. This characteristic is generally attributed to mechanical stresses which in turn, creates a very fragile make-up. All quartz that has this composition or structure is now generally labeled as amethyst.

Historically amethyst has been of great use in attempting to guard against drunken behavior and for fighting addiction. Additionally it has been used for diverse reasons such as in hearing disorders, sleep disorders, pain and even mental disorders. It folklore is to be believed it can also help in dreams, peacefulness, love, spiritual wellbeing, strength and happiness.

Callicarpa dichotoma 'Early Amethyst'

Callicarpas ? Loads of Berries from Late Summer through Autumn One of our favorite plants for fall interest is the Callicarpa. What puts these hardy deciduous shrubs at the top of our list is the profusion of lavender purple berries that are borne in autumn, adding distinctive color to the garden. Callicarpa is actually Greek for beautiful fruit, and these shrubs are commonly called Beauty Berries. This week we are featuring the Callicarpa with the showiest fruit display, 'Early Amethyst.'

Plant Early Amethyst for the Longest Berry Display of any Callicarpa Callicarpa 'Early Amethyst' is a striking deciduous shrub with lime-green foliage on arching branches. In the late summer and throughout the autumn, 'Early Amethyst' will deliver vivid color to your landscape with profuse clusters of glossy purple berries, a very unusual color for berries on hardy shrubs. The berries are particularly attractive after the leaves have fallen in mid fall. These beautiful berries remain into winter. On 'Early Amethyst' the berries begin to appear in August, several weeks before any other Beauty Berry. 'Early Amethyst' will quickly mature to about four feet tall and three to four feet wide. Use 'Early Amethyst' as a low hedge, in a border or as a specimen planting. Stems of dried Callicarpa berries make a display that lasts for over a month indoors. They combine beautifully with dried Pee Gee Hydrangea blooms or dried Winterberry Holly berries.

Not only is 'Early Amethyst' beautiful, but it is also very hardy and easy to grow. All Callicarpas are deer resistant. Plant in a rich, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade and watch your 'Early Amethyst' thrive. Any pruning of old or crowded branches or pruning to desired size should be done in early spring. Every three or four years, early spring rejuvenation pruning (cutting all stems almost to ground level) is desirable.
